Extensive development around capillary isoelectric focusing (cIEF) resulted in optimization of cIEF chemistry, mobilization strategies, separation techniques, and development of new peptide pI standards. This work paves the way for an automated, quantitative charge heterogeneity assay with high resolution and reproducibility. The assay improvements have proven valuable not only for the development of universal platform methods for analysis of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), but also for the separation of narrow range cIEF methods. Beckman Coulter's new cIEF methods are available for download here. We suggest using these new methods in combination with the Advanced cIEF Starter Kit for charge heterogeneity analysis by cIEF. This combination will allow you to achieve the highest level of precision for pI determination and isoform quantitation of your sample.
