Farewell to a Great Man
|
|
"In all of our lives, we're constantly taking risks and changing our lifestyles
and discovering things by trial and error. If you're not making a few mistakes, you're probably
not doing very much. Only by taking risks do you make progress." Dr. Arnold O. Beckman
Driven, yet still witty, humble and curious. He was a man of great strength and vision. A man
of charity. Had it not been for Arnold O. Beckman and his inventiveness, each of our lives would
be very different today. In fact, the world would have been very different. He gave us the pH
meter, the DU® spectrophotometer and the Helipot® potentiometer. Inventions with
far-reaching impact - further than even he ever dreamed. With the wealth he acquired from his
inventions and the company's success, Arnold O. Beckman gave back much, and had become known as
the world's leading science philanthropist. Scientific centers at universities around the
United States bear his name, and will yield generations of scientists and scientific breakthroughs.
His gifts to the advancement of science top $200 million - but when measured in terms of their
contributions to improving the quality of life, they will be priceless. Dr. Beckman was an
inquisitive young man until the day he died. He is forever in our hearts, and Beckman Coulter,
Inc. will continue in the finest traditions set by this twentieth century renaissance man.
