High Flash Point: The Ready Safe solvent PXE (phenylxylylmethane) has a flash point of 156°C. This means that it is classified as non-flammable in many countries and, therefore, does not require special storage in expensive metal cabinets.
Low Vapor Pressure: PXE is much less volatile than solvents in traditional liquid scintillation cocktails. This means that exposure of laboratory personnel to harmful solvent fumes is greatly reduced.
Biodegradability
Where state, local and institutional regulations permit, Ready Safe is drain disposable, helping to reduce disposal costs. A comparative study, published in the journal Health Physics1, demonstrates that PXE degrades more rapidly than other solvents used in commercially available, environmentally safe cocktails.
