Emergency Employee Categories

The Brazosport Regional Health System (BRHS) lab’s hurricane plan divides employees into three categories—each one with a specific mission:

E1s: On-Site Service Providers
This small core of employees volunteers to remain on campus during the storm. Staff members actually pack a suitcase and live inside the hospital and run the STAT lab until the hospital closes the emergency room completely.

E2s: Preparation Helpers
These employees help prepare the equipment for shut-down; pack up and move supplies; and cover instrumentation with plastic covers for protection.

E3s: Essential Re-entry Staff
After the storm, these are the first employees to come back to the lab. Their job is to assess any damage, get the instruments back online and coordinate getting the lab operational again. These include section leaders and experienced technologists who can help ensure a seamless start-up process.
