Consensus recommendations with the Fourth Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction guidelines reinforce guidance on the use of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays published by the AACC Academy Laboratory Medicine Practice group and IFCC Committee on Clinical Applications of Biomarkers. This workshop provides cross-discipline (laboratory, emergency medicine, cardiology) commentary with evidence-based rule-out, diagnostic and risk assessment clinical studies addressing: QC utilization, reportable analytical limits, units for reporting, sex-specific 99th percentiles, defining high-sensitivity assays, preanalytic/analytic challenges, harmonizing assays, turnaround times, and biological variabilities in interpreting serial (delta) collections. A multidisciplinary expert panel will address audience questions.
1. Understand the laboratory medicine expert recommendations* along with the Fourth Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction** for the use of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin in acute coronary syndromes including impact to emergency medicine, cardiology and laboratory medicine.
2. Become educated on the analytical characteristics unique to high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays, how they differ from contemporary and POC assays, as well as guidance on how to implement high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays in clinical practice.
3. Explore clinical and analytical challenges encountered in daily practice by the laboratory, emergency medicine and cardiology following implementation with an interactive expert panel discussion and audience engagement.
