Career Story: From College to Corporate
It is the mentorship that I’ve received, especially from the brilliant women I’ve connected with through the Women + Friends ARG, that has inspired me and opened my mind to new possibilities both in my personal life and my professional career. Growth is not a linear path, and that’s what makes it so rewarding.

It was the summer of 2017 when Fiona Essiam graduated from the College of William and Mary with a degree in Neuroscience and Public Health and began her career with Beckman Coulter. Fiona was thrilled: she had been accepted into the Commercial Leadership Program – a dynamic rotational program that prepares associates for a career of complex sales in the clinical laboratory.

“For a fresh-out-of-college graduate, the opportunity to participate in a developmental program with an emphasis on leadership was unmatched,” said Fiona.

After completing the seven months in the Commercial Leadership Program, Fiona transitioned from an Associate Sales Representative to an Account Sales Consultant. She was promoted to Territory Sales Executive II just a year and a half after that. Throughout her time at Beckman Coulter, Fiona has had many experienced mentors that have provided valuable insight and advice throughout the years.

“Beckman Coulter and Danaher are extremely focused on providing professional development opportunities that align with each associates’ goals. I have been encouraged to work with teams outside of my own department to gain a more diversified skill set. This has helped me approach challenges within my role with a new set of eyes but has also led to the realization that there is more than one path I can take to move upwards in this organization.”

Throughout her career, Fiona has always been rooted in the impact that her work has. “We work in a very collaborative environment. Even with the intensive professional development aside, I love being a member of a team that works so hard to improve the patient experience and clinical outcomes for so many. It is a pleasure going to work every day when you know you are making a difference.”

“I would recommend joining BEC Dx to anyone who is excited to work on a team of passionate and driven individuals. If you are ready for a challenge, open to new perspectives, and welcome the opportunity to grow, we would love to have you on our team!”
