Enhancing Diagnostics and Automation to Improve Patient Care in Potenza, Italy

Over the last three years, the CEDIA Laboratory (Centro di Diagnostica Avanzata di Laboratorio) at the San Carlo Regional Hospital in Potenza, Italy, has fully integrated the DxI 9000 Immunoassay Analyzer and DxA 5000 Total Lab Automation System. Over that time, the team has noted remarkable improvements not only in laboratory efficiency, but in its support for clinical care as well.

Faster turnaround times across core analytical metrics have enabled faster clinical decision-making, and a higher first-pass yield has substantially reduced repeat analyses and retesting cycles.1

Expanding Testing Capacity and Improving Accuracy in Sebokeng, South Africa

In the past, when the team at the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) Sebokeng in Gauteng, South Africa relied on aging equipment and inefficient workflows, they often struggled to keep pace with their growing testing demands. Upgrading to the DxA 5000 Total Lab Automation System has helped the NHLS team power faster turnaround times, reduce errors, and increase their testing capacity—so they can take on more in-house testing and support important community outreach programs.

In addition to its regular testing, the NHLS runs community awareness campaigns (e.g., tuberculosis testing) several times a year. With the DxA 5000 system delivering fast, reliable results, the laboratory team can leverage the accurate diagnostics and efficient workflows they need to support this important outreach.

Total Laboratory Automation Helps the NHLS Deliver

Clinical Excellence

The laboratory team’s sample target rejection rate is 3%. Previously, the team often faced sample integrity issues or delays that necessitated re-draws, impacting patient care and efficiency. Since implementing the DxA 5000 system, they have exceeded this target—reducing rejection rates to just 2.5%.*2

Efficiency

The team has a target to turn around all results within eight hours of sample receipt. Before using the DxA 5000 system, they met this target ~69% of the time. With the DxA 5000 system, the team has achieved 98% delivery on the eight-hour target.*2
