Respiratory viruses, including influenza viruses, RSV and SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19)continue to cause significant morbidity, mortality, and economic burden. Accurate and quick diagnosis in the laboratory or at the point of care is important to effectively manage infections, drive appropriate use of antiviral treatment, and reduce disease transmission. These viruses change over time, driving the emergence of new strains and variants that can challenge the performance of diagnostic tests. It is crucial that these tests are designed with the robustness to detect newly emerging strains of respiratory viruses.
