How Do the DxH 900 and XN20 Stack Up?
A Data-Driven Comparison

Clinical labs need hematology analyzers that deliver accuracy and efficiency. Yet, platelet clumps, missing MPV data, and inconsistent flagging can cause errors and increase the need for smear reviews. Researchers from Hospital Universitari de Girona Doctor Josep Trueta and Universitat de Girona published a study in Diagnostics in which they compared the DxH 900 hematology analyzer with the Sysmex XN20 on 1,000 patient samples to evaluate precision, correlation, and flagging performance.

Key Findings:

  • Both analyzers showed excellent precision (<5% variation for most CBC parameters)
  • Strong overall correlation across RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, RDW, and PLT
  • DxH 900 consistently reported MPV for all samples; XN20 required an additional channel
  • DxH 900 delivered higher flagging sensitivity for IG and abnormal lymphocyte detection
  • 100% sensitivity/specificity for blast detection on both analyzers when combined with clinical criteria
  • Superior platelet clump detection with DxH 900 in low-count samples

Summary

Both analyzers provide high-quality results for high-throughput labs, but the DxH 900 offers advantages in flagging sensitivity, MPV reporting, and platelet clump detection, first-pass results, and supporting confidence with manual reviews.
